At NatureSweet®, our 1,100 acres of greenhouses are planted, vine-nurtured and hand-picked at the peak of freshness by our 6,000 full-time Associates. As a vertically-integrated company, we own our greenhouses and employ the Associates to ensure you always have the best-tasting tomatoes.

WEATHER

Where were your tomatoes grown?

NatureSweet® tomatoes are 100% greenhouse-grown in a controlled environment, from the seeds, to the growing medium, to the water that is used. NatureSweet® tomatoes begin with seeds that have been selected for their superior taste and all plants are nurtured with a “secret recipe” of water and nutrients.

Colima

Located in the valley of the Colima Volcano, Colima is in the central Pacific coast of Mexico.

Our site at Colima is home to 760 associates and 197 acres of greenhouses.

Community at Colima

At all our sites, including Colima, we grow our tomatoes in greenhouses. This allows us to grow the perfect plant year round. All our greenhouses are audited to ensure cleanliness, and our associates are trained to ensure best practices - this includes hand washing, pest control, cleaning and disinfecting.

Once our tomatoes have reached the peak of freshness, we hand pick each one and transport them to the packing house in Zapotlan. Upon arrival, the pallets are weighed and the tomatoes are then washed and disinfected. Our quality team then takes a sample for evaluation - we sort for colors and defects and then determine quality based on the NatureSweet standards!

Before a pallet leaves our packing house, we place a stamp on the pallet that shows the quality of the fruit. This determines if the tomato is NatureSweet or premium quality.

Finally, we pack the tomatoes into their package, weighing and labeling every single bowl. We also code each bowl so they can be traced back to the greenhouse where they were grown.

The tomatoes are then cooled and loaded on refrigerated trucks. We ship them out to be enjoyed!

We baby our tomatoes from seed to shelf, to ensure you are always getting the freshest, best tasting NatureSweet tomato! Enjoy!

At NatureSweet, all of our water is ground water that comes from wells onsite. The water enters our plants, and is mixed with fertilizer in tanks. The exact amount of nutrients the plants need are mixed in. Traditional agriculture spreads fertilizer to the soil or sprays it from planes. We use 58% less water than open field farms

We are also working to make our packaging more sustainable. Our 10oz & 16.5 oz bowls are made of 100% recycled PET. By 2025, our goal is for all of our packaging will be reusable, fully recyclable, compostable or biodegradable.
